Yes, we brought some electronics with us, especially for the second half of our trip. For “Part Two”, as we’re calling it, we added another digital camera and a netbook. Why? We knew we were going to Antarctica, and Matt couldn’t resist getting a mid-level camera to use while we were there (it will probably be the only time in our lives that we’ll go to Antarctica). The laptop makes processing and posting the photos a lot easier (as well as all of the other online stuff that we do).
What specifically did we bring?
- Digital Camera. Panasonic GF1 pocket camera, with a 20mm lens.
- Included battery and charger with International plug
- Telephoto lens: 45-200mm Panasonic zoom lens
- 2 extra batteries (for Antarctica)
- 28 (yes, twenty-eight) SD memory cards to capture photos and movies, and as backup
- Waterproof case to carry the memory cards in
- SD memory card reader in case the netbook has a problem
- Joby Gorillapod tripod with level
- Additional lens cleaners and cases to protect everything
- Netbook: Lenovo s10-2 running MacOS X 10.6.2.
- Included 6-cell, 5-hour battery and AC Adapter with US plug
- Logitech trackball for photo edits
- Neoprene traveling case
- 2 SDHC memory cards with backups of the Windows and MacOS installs – not perfect, but a way to get it running again if something fails…
- 2 iPhones as backup web and email (and financial services) access
- 2 iPod charging cables
- 1 iPod AC adapter
- 1 Casio digital camera (backup and for underwater)
- Included battery and charger
- Dicapac waterproof submersible case
