Well, we woke up to a beautiful morning here in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is springtime, with the trees in bloom and the sun shining brightly- it is lovely to see one of the four seasons after months of wet or dry climates!

It has been a whirlwind of travel lately. After weeks of bus travel through Peru and into Chile- an amazing way to see the continent- we arrived in Santiago de Chile. It is a beautiful city, surrounded by mountains and filled with fantastic colonial buildings.

From Santiago we flew to Easter Island, a place unlike any we have seen before. It was phenomenal and we will write more about it (with Matt’s great pics posted as well) and other places we’ve seen over the past month. But first we wanted to let everyone know about some serious news we’ve had from home.

My brother has a number of medical problems, one of which has gotten worse since we’ve been gone. The situation now requires surgery, so Matt and I are coming home for a few weeks, to be there for the surgery and to help out any way that we can.

Please send any prayers and good thoughts that you can to my brother, Joe. He has a difficult way to go and keeps a fantastic positive attitude in the face of it all. He charms everyone he meets, so I have no doubt that he will make a million new friends at the hospital while he is there!

In the meantime, we will post pics from our travels to date- and any new news that comes our way. Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers.

Hey! Sorry for the late reply! We are coming back to Buenos Aires on February 3rd – any chance you’ll be there (or Patagonia) in February-March?

Hola! Well, I have to admit this is the first time have visited your blog (disconnected would be a good word for me right now) and was hoping to see if you were near Buenos Aires (I just arrived a week ago from Lima- a plane was required to get me to move that quickly). I wish you all the best back in Philly. I hope everyting goes well with the surgery and that your brother recuperates quickly. efinitely be in my thoughts and prayers. And when you get back down south, let me know. If cosmic forces so decide, perhaps we can meet up again. Cheers and Merry Christmas!

Thanks Taurean! We would love to meet up sometime. We’re in Philly right now; our schedule is really tough but if it smooths out I will give you a ring. Would be great to see you!

Sorry to hear about you brother, I will keep him in my prayers and thoughts. Maybe when you guys get back we can meet up for dinner or something. I’m rarely in Philly nowadays and will be traveling in a couple weeks, but we can make it happen. Take care and safe travels!
